Lefkada is one of the Ionian Islands. It is the 4th largest island in the Ionian Sea and it is located between Corfu and Kefallonia.
Lefkada is surrounded by a number of smaller islands, Kalamos, Kastos, Meganisi as well as a group of islands known as Prigkiponisia, to which belong the private islands Scorpios, Madouri and Sparti. Due to its geographical location, it is connected to Etoloakarnania by a floating bridge and the access to the island is by car, easily and inexpensively.
Lefkada is famous for its sandy beaches with clear blue waters, such as Kathisma and Porto Katsiki and for its picturesque fishing villages and mountain villages. It offers night entertainment, sports activities such as windsurfing but also sightseeing spots, such as the Venetian Castle of Agia Mavra, the Cape Lefkatas and the Waterfalls of Dimosari.
Beaches
Lefkada stands out among all the Greek islands for its beautiful beaches with the blonde sand and the turquoise waters. They are constantly voted by tourist guides as the best in the Mediterranean, having gained worldwide fame.
The impressive Lefkada beaches in length and beauty are located on the west coast of Lefkada. Sandy beaches, with clear waters, that shock: Amoglossa, Kastro, Gyra, Agios Ioannis, Pefkoulia, Agios Nikitas, Mylos, Kathisma, Megali Petra, Kavalikeuta, Gialos, Egremnoi and Porto Katsiki. Porto Katsiki, the famous and awarded Lefkada beach, voted as one of the best in Greece and one of the most popular in the Mediterranean Sea, is of a breathtaking beauty. Steep white rocks stand over a fantastic sandy beach and turquoise waters.
The east and the south side of Lefkada, offers lee, small and large beaches, with pebbles and paradise water: Ligia, Nikiana, Perigiali, Nydri, Desimi, Poros Ammousa, Agiofilli, Vassiliki.
